Madison County Commission Chair Dale Strong declares victory in Alabama’s 5th Congressional District, a seat held by Mo Brooks. Brooks didn't seek a seventh term and ran for the U.S. Senate seat won by KatieBrittforAL. alpolitics

Republican Dale Strong declared victory Nov. 8, 2022, to win the 5th Congressional District seat in Congress. His family joined him on stage at the victory party. North Alabama voters elected Republican Dale Strong on Tuesday to the U.S. House of Representatives, providing a new voice seeking to expand Huntsville’s economic prosperity to the region as a whole.

Strong, chair of the Madison County Commission and overwhelming favorite in the three-way race, will replace Mo Brooks as the representative of Alabama’s 5th Congressional District. Brooks, the oft-controversial congressman, did not seek a seventh term in office, instead running earlier this year for U.S. Senate and finishing second to Katie Britt in the Republican primary.

“To my fellow conservatives in the United States congress, help is on the way,” Strong said. He cited Republican issues such as border security and energy independence and added, “We’re fixing to take care of business.” “You look at what we mean to national security,” Strong said in an interview last week with AL.com. “You look at what we mean to space exploration. We’re in a great position. You look at what Redstone Arsenal does for our country. I believe we will be called on to do more.

Strong’s election continues an ascendent career in public office. He won his first election in 1996, becoming the youngest Republican voted into office when he became the District 4 commissioner in Madison County representing the northwest region of the booming county.
