If this year’s large surprise surplus budget is indeed a flash in the pan, finance minister Donna Harpauer should take a bow: her steadfast and consistent response of “no” in response to calls by the NDP and unions to make huge one-time investments in health care and social programs with the surplus will prove to have been the right one, especially if the extra cash doesn’t materialize again.
Later this week, current Saskatchewan Party MLA and speaker of the Legislative Assembly Randy Weekes is expected to announce his candidacy for the party’s nomination in the new constituency of Kindersley-Biggar, putting him squarely in the path of Ken Francis, the current MLA for Kindersley, who is also expected to run in the new constituency.Article content
