Prescott is entering the final year of his contract and would become an unrestricted free agent next spring if no deal is signed.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott heaves a pass downfield against the Los Angeles Rams first team defense during a training camp scrimmage in Oxnard, California, August 14, 2024.“Not too much of a hoping guy any which way you put it,” he said. “If it happens it happens. Honestly, it’s the business. Whether those contract are going good, as I said, the conversations, I’m happy where I’m at right now and that’s where my focus is.
The Cowboys can’t franchise their quarterback should he become a free agent next season and he’s got a no-trade clause in his contract. So if the Cowboys fail to extend Prescott, he becomes an unrestricted free agent next spring. “Yeah, as I said I enjoy being a Cowboy 1,000%,” Prescott said. “I enjoy living in Dallas, enjoy everything about it. But this is a business so conversations are going well. But I’m thankful to be where I am right now and that’s here. As I said I have somebody that takes care of that and I’m not putting that much thought in hoping it gets done now, hoping it gets done in a couple of weeks during the season or whenever it happens. I just know conversations are going the right way.
. This is my 15th year covering the Dallas Cowboys. I've covered four head coaches and started covering the beat in Bill Parcells' last season when Tony Romo took over in 2006. And now I'm in the midst of the Dak Prescott/Micah Parsons era.
