DaisyJonesAndTheSix Review: Angsty, Riveting Adaptation Draws You In From The Start
“How did we get here? How do we get out? We used to be something to see. Oh baby, look at us now….” After finishing Daisy Jones & The Six, these lyrics from “Look at Us Now ” will stick with the audience, becoming more potent as the story goes on. Prime Video’s newest series, adapted from the 2019 book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, gets into the nitty-gritty life of its characters, and has the music to back up this fictional documentary-style about the rise and fall of its titular rock band.
The Prime Video series is character-driven, slowly peeling back the layers that make up the lives of Daisy and Billy, how that factors into their music, and the connection that pulses between them. They’re drawn to each other like magnets, and though they occasionally repel, they act as mirrors to one another, seeing and understanding the very things that others don’t. Sam Claflin and Riley Keough have a fiery chemistry.
