Gavin Maidment says he didn't expect to be told he would have just a year to live after drinking for years.
A dad who drank so much alcohol he is now dying from liver failure has admitted he wished he stopped drinking in a strong warning to others.
“But I’ve realised I lived an unhealthy lifestyle for too long and that’s the basis of my position,” he told WalesOnline. Gavin went to a specialist clinic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in the hope of a liver transplant in November, but was told he was too unwell for a successful transplant.

He’s also donated £5,000 to Newport-based palliative care charity St David’s Hospice which has provided him with “outstanding” support and which he calls an “unbelievably excellent charity”.
