A dad who introduced a ‘no electricity at home’ policy now has instructed his family to wear head torches to save money.
Chavdar Todorov, 53, puts the heating on just once a week and encourages his wife and children to wrap up in coats and blankets. The family were forced to change their living habits after they saw their energy bill had doubled in price to £320 a month.Normal tasks – such as yoga, reading and doing the dishes – are now done under the solitary beam of a head torch.Chavdar, his wife, Moda, 49, and their children – Teo, 14, and Nicole, 20 – now all don the head torches to reduce their £3,800 bill.
‘I don’t put the heating on if I’m home alone and just keep my jacket on. My husband came up with the funny idea of using head torches. ‘We keep the lights off and use our head torches but it’s scary and I don’t feel as safe. There have been a lot of burglaries in our area.
