On Saturday, ICE confirmed that officers arrested Selvin Estuardo Galicia Galicia and Jose Tunche-Dieguez, both Guatemalan nationals, during the operation. “Both entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown time and broke our nation’s immigration laws. They will remain in ICE custody until they are removed,” an ICE spokesperson said in a statement. The organization said it was alerted to ICE activity by a school district crossing guard who reported seeing federal agents in the area. One of the men detained was a father who had just dropped off his child at school, according to Resistencia En Acción. A second individual was detained on John Street shortly afterward, the group said. Volunteers arrived at the scene after receiving the report, but said ICE officers had already left. Princeton officials confirmed that two men were detained in the borough and said the town did not receive advance notice from ICE. “The municipality shares the concerns many in our community feel in response to this and similar actions,” Princeton officials said in a statement. Town officials also emphasized that Princeton police do not participate in federal immigration enforcement and said ICE did not share information about the reasons for the arrests. Resistencia En Acción said it spoke with a relative of one of the detained men, who said the man was on his way to work when he was taken into custody. “My cousin was no criminal,” the relative said. “He came here to find better opportunities, and now he’s been taken.” The Princeton arrests come amid increased immigration enforcement nationwide since President Donald Trump began his second term in January 2025. Recently, ICE officers detained a father in Morristown while he was picking up food for his 6-year-old daughter, according to the child’s mother.
