Dad cries as he's cleared in court after neighbour died from punch

A jury has found a 60-year-old man not guilty of the manslaughter of his next door neighbour. The jury began deliberating on Tuesday morning at Nottingham Crown Court and returned their verdict at 2.40pm.

Arthur Cabourn hit next door neighbour Alan Youd, 69 - the punch followed a history of ill-feeling between them. Mr Youd, a dad to two daughters, hit the ground during a fight with Mr Cabourn and never regained consciousness. Mr Cabourn acted in self-defence. Mr Cabourn, then of Chesnut Drive, Shirebrook, claimed Mr Youd came at him, then sped up and lunged at him. Mr Cabourn also told the jury he did what he had to do, what he thought was right to protect himself, claiming that it was Mr Youd who came at him. He said: "I have just got to live with this for the rest of my life."Whilst Mr Cabourn's injuries were superficial, the fatal injury to Mr Yold was consistent with a blunt trauma blow - a punch to the left side of his jaw.
