Perez, 46, was shot dead by San Antonio police officers at her apartment on June 23. Two officers are charged with murder, a third with aggravated assault.

Prosecutors preparing for the trial of three fired San Antonio police officers charged in the fatal shooting of Melissa Perez are seeking records about her mental condition in the years leading up to her death. Defense lawyers for the three ex-officers want to see the records, too. Perez, a 46-year-old mother of four, was killed June 23 during a confrontation with police at her Southwest Side apartment.

Two officers accused in Melissa Perez’s killing were punished multiple times by SAPD Patrol officers responded to the Rosemont at Miller’s Pond apartments, where Perez lived, around 12:30 a.m. on June 23. They found her outside talking to firefighters. She was cooperative at first and gave the officers her name, date of birth and apartment number. She said she cut the wires to the complex’s alarm system because the FBI was eavesdropping on her.
