Some DA leaders are up in arms and have criticised a federal executive (FedEx) decision to hold the party’s leadership election at the end of October via a virtual platform
Their main bone of contention is that such a decision significantly favours interim leader John Steenhuisen.
City Press was reliably informed last week that at the FedEx meeting, Makashule Gana, a DA Gauteng provincial legislature member, proposed that the leadership election be postponed until after next year’s local government elections. They argued that should the elective conference commence as planned, it would give an unfair advantage to Steenhuisen, “while greatly disadvantaging” his competitors for the top spot, Ntuli and Moodey.
“We are dealing with those challenges with a team of technical experts. We will build up to the congress – one meeting at a time – and test the systems incrementally as we approach the end of the year,” Zille said. City Press has learnt that the DA’s FedEx would recommend to the party’s federal council that it hold its leadership election via a virtual platform at the end of October.
