Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban has clarified that the sugar importation made by the government through three companies sans sugar order was ordered and approved by the Palace.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Feb. 22, Panganiban said the memorandum from the Office of the Executive Secretary dated Jan.13 was already considered a “sugar order” to proceed with the importation of the sugar supply.
Panganiban stressed that while he knows the importation must be covered by an SRA order, the directive of the Executive Secretary “was a manifestation that that directive is already a Sugar order” given the urgency of the situation. “Yes, he was aware. When the sugar arrived on Feb. 9, he was properly informed that the sugar had arrived,” he said.
