The onetime prominent local rapper spent his last day screaming at cars in Concord streets and attacking his 83-year-old grandfather before a relative stabbed him to death.

Antonio Valdez, 38, a onetime prominent local rapper who went by the stage name Lil Toro, was stabbed to death last Dec. 15. Valdez’s killer was identified by police as a relative in his early 60s, and authorities say Valdez was killed after he allegedly attacked his own grandfather, then 83, stomping the man’s head and breaking his skull in several places.

Despite Valdez being unarmed and his uncle grabbing a knife during the dispute, prosecutors found that Valdez was so violent and aggressive during the ordeal that they wouldn’t be able to disprove self-defense at trial, authorities said. Before he was stabbed to death, Valdez allegedly bit the relative who killed him, causing an inches-long gash on the victim’s hand, then attacked the man’s wife who was also in her early 60s, authorities said. Much of the attack was captured on 911 calls made by the relatives, who were attempting to stop Valdez and treat the 83-year-old man’s injuries simultaneously. The hectic and chaotic scene played out in unincorporated Concord, on the 5100 block of Laurel Drive, and was investigated by the Contra Costa Sheriff’s office. Valdez, once a rising rapper from Vacaville, had fallen out of the local music scene in the years before his death. His YouTube page, once an online venue for his songs, was more recently dedicated to paranoid rants about his family members, some centering on his relationship with his grandfather, and others where Valdez displayed bizarre behavior like imitating Nazi soldiers. Authorities say Valdez had multiple untreated mental health disorders, including schizophrenia, and that he had been seen in Concord earlier in the day screaming at cars. His grandfather survived the attack but required hospitalization, police said at the time.Savannah Guthrie's 'Today' interview sparks backstage power struggles, tensionsDear Abby: If I can't see the baby, then I want my money backDear Abby: The bride admitted to me that the wedding was a shamMiss Manners: They won't even set a menu until the guests arrive
