The summer evening watch party had all the ingredients of a festive occasion, with casually-dressed people and free Ben & Jerry's ice cream for the taking.

If it weren't for the fences surrounding the perimeters of the Capitol, the watch party may have been held even closer to the Capitol grounds.
"I was just talking to someone who said the January 6 insurrection scared her more than 9/11," said Lake Dodson, a student at the University of Mississippi."I thought that was really shocking."
