Ian LivingstonAs the second full month of summer comes to an end, heat is cranking up again in the D.C. area. The region is entering its fifth heat wave of the year, and it could last at least a week.The heat comes as the District is about to clinch itson record, which featured four days in the triple digits. Meteorological summer — which began June 1 and ends Aug. 31 — ranks as the second warmest on record to date.
It’s not out of the question that the District hits 100 on Thursday or Friday. It has already reached the triple digits five times this year , tied for the fifth most instances on record. Years with more such days include 1980 , 1988 , 2012 and 1930 .
