Russell has been great this season so far.
With your Los Angeles Lakers now one week into their 2023-24 NBA season, it seems that LA has all sorts of leaders within their locker room. So far this year, point guard D’Angelo Russell has started to take some of the younger players on the Lakers under his wing, namely forward Cam Reddish.
“I’m locker-mates with D-Lo, so we talk all the time,” Reddish said. “We talk about the game, the ways to score, ways to get involved. Impact the game in any way possible. So, I would say D-Lo for the most part” has helped me the most."Russell is still a younger player himself, but he has been around the league for a while now. He has matured himself into a very nice point guard in the NBA, and he has valuable advice to give to some of the other players.
"The “only thing you can change is your approach,” Russell said he has told Reddish. “So, forget the past and just change your approach and try to work on your professionalism and how you carry yourself. Understand the perception of you and what they say, what it looks like. Just understanding that as a young player. As a young player, it takes you to bump your head a few times to realize your perception."He saw his own struggles at times throughout his career, but he persevered.
“So now, you got an opportunity," Russell said."You got a bunch of vets, a bunch of guys that can help you. Listen. Do more. Do the opposite of what you’ve been doing.”If Reddish can hone in on his skill set, he could end up being a valuable member of this Lakers team. He can shoot the ball decently well, and he has the length to be effective on both sides of the ball.
While things haven’t worked out for him just yet, maybe this year can be a turning point of sorts. He needs to find a rhythm with the Lakers, otherwise, he may never live up to what he can really do on the basketball floor.
