Sophomore Ayla McDowell scored a game-high 27 points and hit the go-ahead free throws as Cypress Springs defeated Langham Creek 55-50 to advance to the Region II-6A semifinals for the first time in program history Monday night at Bridgeland High School.Cypress Springs and Langham Creek both got off to a hot start in the playoffs, winning a pair of games by double digits.

Cypress Springs held Langham Creek to a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter while converting six to win the quarter 18-6. The Panthers went on a 7-0 run to start the quarter, tying the game at 44 via a McDowell 3-pointer. After three lead changes, Di’Aunestie Henderson’s only field goal of the quarter tied the game at 50 before McDowell made two free throws to give them a 52-50 advantage. More free throws iced the game. McDowell had 13 points, the most of any quarter.
A quick 6-2 run forced Langham Creek to call a timeout two minutes into the game. The Panthers outscored the Lobos 10-8 for the rest of the first quarter to lead 16-10.
