With a state medal to her credit, Cypress Ridge junior Rylee Hampton might not need a singular highlight to be considered an elite hurdler. But she produced one, starring on the grandest stage of the high school track and field regular season.
"It was a surreal experience," Hampton said."It was nice to be surrounded by all the pros and a good field of people to compete against." Hampton returned to the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium as a sophomore, competing twice including a 13.73 for bronze in the 100 hurdles. She added a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles, running a 42.23.
"It drives me a lot to see what I'm capable of," Hampton said."I know what I can do now. I feel like I've improved a lot on my confidence and just trusting my training, trusting my abilities, and letting that take part in my races."
