Norwegian cyclist André Drege has died after a tragic crash during the Tour of Austria. Drege was descending the Grossglockner, an Austrian mountain, when he crashed and suffered fatal injuries. He was 25. “André crashed and sustained severe injuries,” race organisers said in a statement. “Our entire team is devastated by this tragic accident.” Team Coop-Repsol paid tribute to their rider following the devastating incident.
“It’s hard to process what happened, we are all quite in shock,” Tour de France leader Tadej Pogačar said. “This is very sad to hear. My condolences go to his family, teammates and all his loved ones. In the cycling world, we need to take care of each other.” Other cycling teams around the world also paid tribute. “An awful day for cycling, another life gone too soon,” Team DSM-firmenich PostNL tweeted.
