Cycling squad at full strength to ride high at World Championships

A full-strength Malaysian squad are raring to impress at the World Track Cycling Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, from Aug 3-13.

The governing body for the sport, UCI, have released the final quota slots and Malaysia have earned full representation in the men’s sprint disciplines at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

The newly formed trio took bronze at the recent Asian championships in Nilai as coach John Beasley opted to let Azizul and Shah Firdaus focus on the individual events for the Asian Games in Hangzhou taking place from Sept 23-Oct 8. Malaysia will also have representation in the women’s sprint and 500m time trial but unfortunately missed out on the keirin slot.

The world meet will provide a good indicator of the form of the cyclists heading to the Asian Games and Beasley is confident the cyclists will give a good account of themselves.
