An incredible ending that I absolutely hated because of what a gut punch it was. Here's the Cyberpunk 2077 ending from Phantom Liberty you have to endure.
. She wakes up two years later, not a few weeks. She’s obviously lost Johnny who she agreed to purge before any of this happened, much to his dismay. But past that, when she tries to call her friends, they’ve all moved on over the years after she totally disappeared, many thinking she ghosted them. If you romanced Judy, like I did, she informs you she moved out of the city and got married. Kerry is on tour and brushes you off. River’s life has fallen apart.
Then, what could be the bleakest part of all. The only person who seems to still care about you is Viktor, who invites you back to Night City to deal with what you just learned. That part of the chip fix that means you cannot use any sort of advanced combat cyberware at all now, your body simply will not accept it. Viktor says he can fix it, but he can’t. This leads to a sequence that has you being jumped by two random street thugs, getting your ass kicked.
The ending concludes with a conversation with Misty, about how she says you have to live just a normal life now, a “face in the crowd,” like an average person. The camera pans back to reveal a V that’s a ghost of , shaved head, removed makeup and cyberware. Nothing like the character you’ve had all this time. She does in fact disappear into the Nighty City crowd, now just another NPC.
So, V does survive, but absolutely alone, losing everyone she once knew. Not only that, losing everything that made her special, no longer the badass merc king of Night City, not even able to deal with random street trash. The only sign of hope is that you can tell Misty maybe you’ll move away and start a new life, but man, this is utterly bleak. I did not want this to be my V’s ending. I had to go back and do something else.
V surviving in this ending does not mean my theory was right. I do not believe that Cyberpunk 2 will involve V getting her cyberware back and continuing as the lead. I think it’s another hard ending to her story like the others, and she will not be the star of Cyberpunk 2 despite living in one of many endings. And again, despite being the “best” ending where she actually lives, I honestly think this is the worst ending possible.
