For the 2024 election, Cuyahoga County will be a key focus for both Democratic and Republican campaigns.
Cuyahoga is the second most populous county in the state, with over 1.2 million residents. The county, which is usually Democratic, plays a critical role in elections, often acting as a counterweight to more conservative, rural areas of Ohio. However, economic challenges, such as job loss due to deindustrialization, has made Cuyahoga County an arena for discussions around economic revitalization. In July 2019, 614,000 county residents were working. That number dipped to 528,000 in 2020. Four years later, the number of residents working has increased to 596,000.The Rev. The four cities in Ohio with the highest percentage of Black population are all Cleveland suburbs: Warrensville Heights, which has a Black population of 94%, followed by East Cleveland , Bedford Heights and Maple Heights , according to the Census Bureau’s five-year American Community Survey. “Abortion rights, having the right to choose, whether that comes to abortion health care, transgender health care, it just seems like very basic human rights,” Pepera said.
Division is a common fear among residents this election cycle. Gohlstin and Pepera both expressed concerns about potential violence from the right following the election, citing the siege on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.Shaker Heights resident Katie Paris said combating extremism is one of her top priorities when voting this year.

Cuyahoga County is first…,” Tamburello said.While there’s some political diversity in Cuyahoga County’s suburbs, the city of Cleveland has long been a solid Blue stronghold, where at least four out of five voters have sided with the Democratic presidential candidate in every race since 2000.
With the cost of groceries, gas and other basics going up, Earley said all kinds of Clevelanders need access to better wages – be it fast food workers, legal secretaries or nurses at the Cleveland Clinic.-- delivers job training, after-school programming, mental health outreach and housing for expectant mothers. And Earley has hit challenges finding homes for moms-to-be.
The federal government, Nkemere said, needs to move past party divides that have come to dominate the national discourse and focus more on delivering the most good for most amount of people.
