Ohio’s sales tax holiday started Tuesday, but a customer says the GameStop in Willoughby still charged her sales tax on her purchase, WKYC reports.
Beth Poje told WKYC that GameStop charged her $17.51 in sales tax on a $241.48 purchase, but that the store manager refused to refund her, the TV station reported.
WKYC found that the customer was also charged a rate of $7.25%, when they should have been charged 7% in Lake County. The rate was lowered on July 1.Ohio’s sales tax holiday runs through Aug. 8, and was expanded to includes what the state calls “tangible personal property” under $500, so it includes so much more than just school supplies.
WKYC reports that they could not get answers about the issue from a supervisor at the store, or from GameStop’s corporate office.
