Super heavyweight Aden Jacks suffers torn ACL, knocking him out of trip to Fort Worth
With the Texas State Golden Gloves tournament just three days away, Aden Jacks was minutes into a final team workout when he felt a pop on the outside of his right knee, followed by a sharp pain.Unable to put any weight on the leg, he immediately feared a ligament tear. A doctor later confirmed a torn ACL.
A year ago, after Jacks won the state heavyweight title in Fort Worth, COVID knocked him out of the national Golden Gloves tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Two-time national champion David Cardenas, the 112-pound winner, withdrew for personal reasons, while 125-pound champion Ethan Perez pulled out because of illness.
Male and female champions in Fort Worth qualify for the prestigious Golden Gloves National Tournament of Champions, May 8-13 in Chester, Pa. Vazquez, who trains at Castillo’s Boxing Gym on San Antonio’s South Side, enters the state tournament with just 11 bouts under his belt. A welder by trade, Vazquez knows he’ll be at a disadvantage when it comes to experience.
