Each man is charged with 12 counts of fraud over $5,000 in connection with what has been called a “grandparent scam” that began in December 2022. Part of Elgamal’s bail conditions required him to obey a 24-hour curfew. He also had to provide $10,000 from two sureties in addition to a $10,000 undertaking — a promise to the court to abide by his release conditions.
He is now required to carry a copy of his revised release order and must stay within a 100-kilometre radius of his workplace while at work.
