Cumberland County Recycling & Waste and Vector Control departments have partnered with Keep Cumberland County Beautiful to host a pilot tire collection event.for a specific time and date. Participants will drop off tires at the county recycling center, at 1001 Claremont Road, Carlisle.Wednesday, May 17, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Tires that are improperly disposed can leach toxic chemicals, which contaminate soil and water. They also provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes and pose a fire hazard. Tire fires are known for being difficult to extinguish and create an abundance of smoke, which carries toxic chemicals, contributing to air pollution.
Appointments are available in 15-minute intervals, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each day has 40 registration slots available, and each customer is limited to 30 tires per day. Cash is preferred; customers will incur a convenience fee for the use of credit and debit cards.or by calling the county’s recycling and waste department at 717.240.6489 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
