“Oh, by the way …” The Cubs finished 83-79 this season, and their fade from playoff contention down the stretch likely factored into the decision to replace David Ross. I liked Ross, though, like most people, I questioned his lineup decisions and occasional strategic moves. He seemed to have the behind-the-scenes part of the job down and I figured he could grow into the on-field part. But I also know how this part of the game works.
