Cubs shortstop Andrelton Simmons has spent the first month of the 2022 season on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

“I can’t wait,” Miley said. “I’ve been with the team this whole time and have just been itching to get out there and compete."Alec Mills will throw off a mound in the next few days and the Cubs will reevaluate him after to determine his next steps.

Mills, who began the season on the 10-day injured list, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa April 23. He experienced quad tightness while working out in the days after, so the Cubs exercised caution and had him take a few days off.It may not be long before David Bote is back with the Cubs. The tentative plan is for Bote to begin a rehab assignment in about two weeks. He's missed the start of the season after undergoing left shoulder surgery over the offseason.

Bote dislocated his left shoulder last May and missed two months. He joined the Cubs for their homestand this week and took batting practice Wednesday. Bote is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list June 6 . Big-league players may spend a maximum of 20 days on a rehab assignment.
