The Cubs have flexibility with their infield, including up the middle with Nico Hoerner, Nick Madrigal and Jonathan Villar.
"There'll be a lot of just shifting guys around," Ross said. “We've got a lot of bodies to keep fresh, and it's a priority with the middle infielders right now to make sure everybody gets some days off.”
Madrigal missed most of 2021 after undergoing season-ending surgery for a right hamstring injury, and the Cubs will be cautious and make sure he gets rest this season. On Friday, it was going to be Hoerner, and Ross said it’s important for him to communicate these things with his players ahead of time.
