As the moon slowly slipped across the sun, Marilyn Nielsen was ready.

“It’s marvelous,” said the 86-year-old, who drove with her family from Utah County to Richfield – one of the best spots to see the annular solar eclipse. What I can’t understand is how they know so many years ahead where it’s going to be, and it’s going to be right there at this time in Richfield,” she said, laughing. “It’s amazing.

Up the street at the city park, John Craig sets up three telescopes. They attracted quite a crowd of people wanting to look through as the eclipse progressed. “Some people like to take pictures. Some people like to just watch by themselves,” Craig said. “I like to share it. To me, sharing it makes it way more fun.”

As each minute passed Saturday morning, anticipation grew. Then, at 10:28 a.m. local time, maximum annularity was reached, and the “ring of fire” was visible for everyone to see.“Definitely worth it,” said Dallin Tew, who made the trip down from South Jordan. “Slept in the back of the car and didn’t sleep for very long, but that’s OK. I think it was definitely worth a bad night’s sleep.”“A ring of fire,” said Kennedy, describing the image she witnessed with her eclipse glasses.

A diverse group of people showed up to Richfield’s park from all around. But for that moment in time, the stunning display above brought everyone together.
