‘Crossed the line’: NBA superstar blows up, shoves reporter over ‘dead brother’ swipe

Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid has reportedly shouted at and shoved a columnist in the locker room s after his side’s 124-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies .

As reporters entered the locker room after the game, Embiid confronted Hayes, reportedly saying: “The next time you bring up my dead brother and my son again, you are going to see what I’m going to do to you and I’m going to have to … live with the consequences.” However, ESPN’s Shams Charania said: “Embiid took issue with a recent column that referenced his late brother and son, and Embiid shoved the columnist. No punch.”Embiid has been sidelined to start the season. Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty ImagesHayes had written a column earlier this week, suggesting that Embiid owed it to Philadelphia to ensure he’s fit and on the floor as much as possible.

Last season, Embiid played just 39 games, while he has played 433 games over eight seasons — his first two seasons in Philadelphia were completely wiped out by injury and this season he hasn’t made it on to the floor. In September, Embiid signed a three-year, $US193 million extension until the end of the 2028-29 season, which will make his remaining deal worth a mouth-watering $A440 million.
