A man is being charged with making criminal threats and assault with a deadly weapon after threatening to kill a BART worker with a crossbow.
DALY CITY — A man who pointed a loaded crossbow at two BART workers and threatened to kill another in late May is facing four felony charges in the bizarre incident, authorities say.
BART police arrested San Leandro resident Daniel Ray Baxter, 41, on May 24 at the Daly City station after two transit workers noticed the man brandishing a crossbow and speaking to himself just before 8 a.m., according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Baxter allegedly pointed the crossbow at one worker and shouted, “I’ll kill you,” according to Wagstaffe. The victim and other BART workers believed he meant what he said and they barricaded themselves and called the police. When police arrived, they found Baxter on the floor of one of the BART cars. He volunteered to police that “he was the one they wanted,” Wagstaffe said.
