Lambda-cyhalothrin is one of the most widely used pesticides on the prairies but approved use for feed was revoked.
“It’s being sold to the feed mills. It’s being sold to the dairy industry, to the poultry industry,” Fournier said.
“If we have some high insect pressure, is there going to be enough availability of the other products to meet those needs?” Fournier said. James Myers, who farms grain in the RM of Monet and has used lambda-cyhalothrin in the past, said grasshoppers were a major problem for his crops last year. The grasshopper forecast in 2022 was not nearly as bad as it is for 2023, he added.
