Nottinghamshire County Council has hit back

A councillor has claimed a Selston street had the "worst road repair ever" following work carried out by Nottinghamshire County Council. Councillor David Martin, who represents Selston on the county council for Ashfield Independents, branded the work "pathetic".

But the county council has hit back - accusing Cllr Martin of making "cheap attacks". The authority added that the "emergency repairs are the first part of an ongoing process" and that "more extensive repairs" to roads are scheduled to take place later in the year.Cllr Martin said: "How anyone can find this pathetic job acceptable is beyond me. It is an embarrassment.

"This is the worst road repair I've ever seen. The process of fixing our highways is as broken as our roads and pavements." As previously reported, Nottinghamshire County Council commissioned a cross-party review of highways in the summer of 2021 to look at the way in which roads were repaired. The authority said it aimed to move towards a "right-first time approach" where roads were resurfaced instead of potholes being temporarily filled.
