Some areas in the West Rand municipality such as Krugersdorp, Kagiso, Munsieville and Lewisham have had to contend with dry taps for over eleven days.
JOHANNESBURG - Parts of Mogale City on the West Rand have been without water for nearly two weeks, as levels at reservoirs remain critically low.
Krugersdorp, Kagiso, Munsieville and Lewisham are some of the most affected areas where taps have been dry for more than 11 days. The Democratic Alliance picketed outside the municipality’s headquarters in a bid to urge the African National Congress-Economic Freedom Fighters administration to address their water woes.
DA caucus chairperson Tyrone Gray said despite plans to improve water provision, there's little implementation. “A plan is only as useful as its implementation. So, we must avoid a fate where we have plans collecting dust in cupboards, but they’re not ventilated into our lived experiences, and they’re not implemented. We also shouldn’t have to mobilise and picket to ask for bare minimums.”“A lot of residents have graciously opened their boreholes for their neighbours. There’s been private companies, friends of emergency services and CPF delivering water to certain areas.
