More than 100 cyclists blocked the four-way intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Pine Street in Capitol Hill on Friday night to honor a woman who was recently killed while crossing the street there.

Critical Mass is a nationwide — and global — movement in which cyclists gather on the last Friday of every month to advocate for safer, more supportive infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians. On Feb. 16, Seattle police reported that 27-year-old Lilliana Moreno was struck by a Toyota Prius while crossing Pine Street. Detectives said the driver had turned onto Pine Street when he hit Moreno, leaving her trapped underneath the car. By the time first responders arrived, Moreno had died. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. He was not arrested.A Seattle Police Department spokesperson later told KOMO News it was the city’s first fatal collision of the year at the time. More than a week later, Critical Mass riders gathered for their monthly event, this time with Moreno in mind. “She was a fellow Seattleite, a fellow human, and no one deserves to get run over by a car when they think they’re just going for a little stroll,” said Armando Valle, a cyclist who lives on Capitol Hill.More than 100 cyclists blocked the four-way intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Pine Street in Capitol Hill on Feb. 27 to honor a woman who was recently killed while crossing the street there. “Unfortunately, this is the third memorial ride we’ve had in a row. Not too long ago, another cyclist was killed. Alex Pretti was a cyclist as well,” Valle said, referring to a Minneapolis man who was shot and killed by two U.S. Border Patrol agents in late January. A small group of cyclists Friday night told KOMO News they knew Moreno and described her as a good friend who lived on Capitol Hill. Before gathering at the intersection, some riders said they traveled from Westlake Center to Vindicktive Wings in Belltown, where Moreno worked. Cyclists said the intersection where Moreno was killed is heavily trafficked and in need of safety improvements.“It’s always been extremely dangerous. I never feel comfortable cycling here, let alone walking,” Valle said. “We’re here advocating for more bicycle-friendly infrastructure and a safer community for everyone. No matter how you get around, it is the right of everyone to travel by any means they deem necessary.”'Florida has the number one economy in the nation because of our commitment to law and order.'Nearly 50 years after a newborn baby girl was found dead inside a trash bag at a landfill in North Carolina, investigators said they finally cracked the case.Body camera video from a prior traffic stop shows a bizarre interaction between Pierce County murder suspect Aleksandr Shablykin and police in 2022.The first-ever income tax in Washington state is closer to reality after an executive committee voted to advance the bill to a full vote. Two Venezuelan nationals, accused of being members of Tren De Aragua, were charged in connection with an ATM jackpotting conspiracy.
