Only one exited a bat harder than 100 mph — a sixth-inning groundout by Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber struck another hard grounder just past Yuli Gurriel in the third. It bounced sailed foul by a few inches. Two pitches later, he watched a two-strike slider clip the strike zone for a second out. He needed 96 to ravage a potent Phillies lineup for six innings, dominating with the very pitch Philadelphia pounds. Each of the Phillies’ first four hitters slugged at least .502 against four-seam fastballs during the regular season. Javier’s entire arsenal is predicated on a four-seamer thrown from a low arm slot, with sneaky movement and only a tick over 93 mph,
“I think that’s the best fastball in baseball right now,” Vázquez said. “The electricity of that fastball — you don’t care if it’s 92, 93, 94 . A lot of swing and miss and foul balls.”
