East Central Mental Health Center, which serves Pike and surrounding counties, is adding a 23-hour crisis diversion center to its adult services.
PIKE COUNTY, Ala. -Mental health is a growing area of concern, especially in the state of Alabama.
After 23 hours, patients can be transported to other facilities with the appropriate care if necessary. “It is critical and the big problem is back in 2012, they closed a whole lot of state hospital beds,” Schofield said.Often those experiencing psychiatric emergencies are admitted to the emergency room, some of which do not have the resources for mental health care.
However, not everyone is supportive of this center, which will be located just across from the east-central office on West Walnut Street in Troy.
