A joint state and federal defense team says it spotted at least 30 unauthorized drones in the sky over the Seahawks championship parade last Wednesday.

The King County Ground Intercept Team, as it is called, interrupted eight drone flights and was able to contact seven of the pilots, according to a King County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson.However, the spokesperson says the pilot ignored warnings and operated the drone inside the stadium, despite a Federal Aviation Administration temporary flight restriction in the area at the time.

The KCSO is now seeking reckless endangerment charges and says federal authorities are seeking other criminal charges and fines. The issue is of heightened concern in advance of the World Cup, and since drones have been used as weapons in the theater of war.
