Makhaza residents in the Western Cape are losing hope that a long-promised new police station will ever materialise
Makhaza residents in Khayelitsha have been pleading with government for a police station to ease pressure on Lingelihle and Harare police stations. While a site was identified back in 2004, a satellite police station was brought to the area just last year. And activists say it’s not serving its purpose. This follows the failed commitment by National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola that construction would begin on a temporary police station on the first of November. So, it's back to the drawing board as they repeat the bidding process.“Makhaza, Harare, Lingelethu and Site B, those are the areas that are mostly hit by crime and violent crimes and there is a reason, as evident from the stats, that there’s a need for a police station," said the CPF chairperson Francina Lucas.
