JOHANNESBURG - Sports lovers are already embracing the adjusted COVID-19 regulations with cricket fans attending the first game without masks in open areas at Supersport Park in Centurion President C
yril Ramaphosa announced on Tuesday night the new gazetted disaster management regulations that allow stadiums to fill up to 50% capacity if fans are vaccinated or provide a negative PCR test.
The third and final one day international between South Africa and Bangladesh took place on Wednesday.They can now attend a game without a mask in outdoor areas if they can prove that they are vaccinated or COVID negative. While cricket South Africa said this was worth celebrating, it also warned that the onus was now on all fans to be responsible so the regulations could be eventually lifted to allow 100% capacity.Siyabulela Loyilane, acting CEO for the National Football Supporters Association, said: “Now we wait to hear from the SAFA and the PSL on when exactly they going to open the stadiums and we will be engaging them today.
Political parties like the DA and EFF are also calling on government to drop all limitations on sport facilities.
