Ground and air crews were fighting the Sheep fire. Highway 2 was closed in the Wrightwood area.
Crews Saturday night were battling a 35-acre wildfire near Wrightwood in the Angeles National Forest, officials said.
Ground and air crews responded to the fire, dubbed the Sheep fire after it was reported at 6:36 p.m. It was initially measured at three to five acres, but had reached 30 acres by 8:30 p.m., the U.S. Forest Service said. An update just after 10 p.m. from the San Bernardino County Fire Department put the blaze at 35 acres with no containment.
The fire, which burned in heavy vegetation in a forested area, blazed a little over a mile from the nearest structures at Desert Front Road north of Wrightwood, officials said. But no mandatory evacuations were in place late Saturday night.Fire in Wrightwood is burning away from the community but is a threat to homes in the Desert Front area.
