Getting hit by a truck is no big deal, apparently.
Working in a hot pit lane is always dangerous, but it is particularly dangerous in NASCAR races with massive fields of 30 or more drivers pitting under caution at once. Things occasionally go wrong, and being hit by a car on the pit lane is not out of the realm of possibility. It happens rarely, and it is usually taken seriously as a major concern. Sometimes, though, the crew member will simply walk it off.Charles Plank, a tire carrier for the No.
The truck veered sideways and hit the pit box at its full width, giving Plank nowhere to go but up. He was hit hard, damaging the truck's bodywork. Then, he just sort of landed on his feet and kept on walking like nothing happened. In an interview after the hit, Plank downplayed the impact. With nowhere to go but up or down, he said that he chose to jump and reduce the risk of being hit by even more of the truck.
