An intruder slipped past security at the NBC show’s headquarters and confronted Melvin on Thursday.
A judge issued a protective order on Friday requiring the alleged intruder, Andrew Truelove, to stay away from the morning show hosts, Truelove’s lawyer As Page Six previously reported, Truelove was arrested Thursday for allegedly breaking into the “Today” show studio and confronting Melvin.

The intruder slipped past security at the NBC show’s New York City headquarters and asked Melvin for Roker after being unable to find him.via cops and sources that the intruder called Melvin the N-word during the incident, which happened right before 9 a.m. “On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 0919 hours, it was reported to officers that there was a disorderly person inside 30 Rockefeller Center, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct,” the statement read.
“Officers responded and placed an unidentified individual into custody. There were no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing. ” According to the statement, the intruder’s interaction with Melvin — which took place in a staircase — lasted 8-10 seconds.
“There was a security incident this morning at the TODAY show studio. An individual entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A. The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security,” the statement began. The NBC show confirmed the trespasser “was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident,” and that there was no “altercation” or injuries.
“TODAY is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter,” the statement continued. “NBC and TODAY take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously. ” During Friday’s broadcast of the “Today” show, Melvin put on a brave face and assured viewers that he is “safe and sound” following the security breach.
“I want to take a quick moment to address an incident that happened yesterday,” the journalist said on Friday morning. “You may have heard that unfortunately an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A. “Thankfully he was apprehended quickly,” the journalist continued. “He was placed under arrest. We are cooperating fully with the NYPD as they investigate the matter.
