RAINS remained on brand and on theme - providing a rain collection fit for a pandemic or fashionable world destruction.
Having said that, the post-apo interactive digital scenario delivered by
RAINS, reflected the current political climate, while making utilitarian rainwear sexy and protective at the same time., shot at an abandoned swimming pool location suitable for a nuclear disaster production , gave us a tingling chill and 2020-appropriate stylish survival wear like no other. I’d like to start by saying I left the digital experience feeling underwhelmed. Perhaps it was the aura of expectations failed, but being crammed into a space with other mask-wearing individuals, only to watch the digital proposal on scaffolded tv screens, is not what I would have wished from a physical presentation - especially this season, where invites to those are given out relunctantly.
The overall functional dystopian adventure focus of the collection contrasts well with some of the smarter, elevated pieces, which are definitely more up my street. The signature rain mac in an oversized, floor-length shape, waterproof aviator jacket cinched with a waist belt, 40’s style button-downs and - most importantly - the high-shine, vinyl two-piece and oil slick suit I would kill for, prove RAINS has earned their rightful place at a prestigious fashion event.
Conclusively, RAINS most definitely delivered on the digital aspect of things, with eerie footage you can navigate through yourself to the chilling sounds of an echo depth finder. The medium they’ve chosen, although unnecessarily presented in person first, allows to see the clothes up-close and feel fully immersed in the brand’s vision.
