A collection full of contrasts and inspired by tales of the sea - Munthe SS21 took a more laidback turn, that we loved!
, a Nordic ready–to–wear favourite presented their Spring Summer 2021 collection ‘Sailor Tailor’, bringing the first day of Copenhagen Fashion Week to a close.
The collection was displayed in a hybrid fashion: allowing people to be privately invited to the Munthe flagship store in central Copenhagen for a viewing, and also allowing everyone else to view the collection online via a film - the perfect solution for the question of social distancing during a huge fashion event .
Founded in 1994, the Danish brand, headed by Naja Munthe is known for embodying that perfect Scandinavian girl style; power suits that are feminine and classy, dresses that are chic and floaty and hand–painted prints. From their Instagram page, Naja explained how “The Spring Summer 2021 collection is all about contrasts: Male versus female, classic grace against atypical attraction, smooth versus sophisticated” – and the new collection delivered just that.
Inspired heavily by mariners, viewers were treated to naval themes that adhere to Naja Munthe’s iconic chic, feminine silhouettes. Three models showcased the entire collection on a treadmill, as if it were a real runway, allowing viewers the opportunity to see exactly how the clothes fit and move with the body.
Swallows also played a huge role in the collection, and were noted by Munthe herself as being important to sailors, as they would use the birds to identify when they were near land. The MUNTHE girl, is a working woman, and the MUNTHE message encourages that, being “clothes for women who work, run a family, go grocery shopping and navigate the streets by bicycle”.
