The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and plan to interview him for their vacant head coaching position. Saleh, who was fired in October after a disappointing season with the Jets, is also being considered by the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys are familiar with Saleh's defensive scheme from his time with the San Francisco 49ers, where his defenses were consistently among the league's best.

Multiple reports indicated Wednesday that the Dallas Cowboys are interested in and expected to interview former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh . No date for the interview has been set. Saleh, who has also received interest from Las Vegas and Jacksonville for their coaching vacancies, was fired in early October as another underwhelming season was underway in New York. Saleh was 20-36 as coach of the Jets before he became the first coach to be fired in the 2024 season.

Saleh, who had one year remaining on his contract, had the worst winning percentage — .357 — of any Jets coach with at least 40 games. One source familiar with the Cowboys' thinking said the team sees Saleh as a good fit because they are familiar with his defenses in San Francisco. In his last two seasons with the 49ers, the defense finished in the top 10. He but the defenses were strong. The QB situation was just unsettled his entire time in New York. He can handle the spotlight of coaching a high-profile team. With a strong quarterback in Dallas, and some adjustments on defense, Saleh might have some success. 'Throughout Mike McCarthy’s tenure here, including the last several weeks, I have been very complimentary of the job he has done. That has applied to our record over that time period, our team unity and culture, Mike’s qualifications and track record of success, and on a personal level as a tremendous human being,’ said Jones. 'Over the past week, Mike and I had the opportunity to conduct a joint review of all aspects of the past season, our players and staff, and also spent considerable time discussing the road forward for the team. These discussions were thorough and received an appropriate amount of time and depth to cover. Prior to reaching the point of contract negotiations, though, it became mutually clear that it would be better for each of us to head in a different direction.'
