A 31-year-old Covington man was arrested for assault and harassment after allegedly stalking a woman for the past few months.a 20-year-old Kent woman called 911 around 7:30 p.m. on June 6 to report she was being followed while walking home by a man in a Jeep on the 26100 block of 116th Avenue Southeast.

"There is some indication that the suspect may have made threats to dissuade her from reporting the altercations to the police," theOn June 6, the woman told officers the suspect pulled beside her, got out of his vehicle and grabbed her shoulder, police said. She moved away, and when he went back to the car, "he showed her what appeared to be pistol," police added. She drove away after taking a photo of his vehicle, the KPD said.

The woman told police she does not know the suspect but he has spoken to her or attempted to speak to her multiple times, according to the KPD. Police said they found the suspect in his car around 8 p.m. on Sunday. He was arrested for first-degree assault and felony harassment, and the Jeep was impounded. A search warrant is being requested to search the vehicle, police added.

"We are very thankful that the victim had the bravery to snap a photo of the vehicle which was instrumental in finding the suspect," the KPD said."Kent PD wants to remind everyone that if you are a victim of a crime, but especially a violent crime, please call 911 and ask for help. It is not uncommon for suspects to threaten victims to keep them quiet," the KPD said in its Facebook post. "There are resources for you regardless of your situation. Please call 911 for help.
