The various aspects of the pandemic, including social isolation, economic hardship, loss of loved ones and changes to daily routines, contributed to the decline in mental well-being for many individuals.Medical doctor and psychologist Dr Jonathan Redelinghuys said the uncertainty and fear that surrounded the virus – combined with concerns about personal health, job security, and the well-being of family and friends – led to increased levels of anxiety and stress.

He said the grieving process was further complicated by social distancing measures, which made it difficult for individuals to seek support or participate in traditional mourning rituals.
