The federal government's COVID inquiry has been expanded to examine the evidence used by the different jurisdictions to implement measures such as lockdowns.
The scope of the COVID inquiry has been widened to"consider how evidence informed decisions" such as lockdowns, after criticism state and territory actions were not being probed.
The three panel members will now also"consider how evidence informed decisions regarding interventions, such as lockdowns, in different jurisdictions across Australia". The updated wording comes as the inquiry starts receiving submissions, which are open until December 15. "I was very clear when we announced the COVID inquiry that the terms of reference explicitly include the examination of health response measures through the pandemic," he responded.
"It would be extraordinary for an inquiry not to examine the operation of those measures. And so that's been made clear by the inquiry committee. The opposition previously accused the Albanese government of running a"protection racket" for the Labor premiers by omitting state and territory decisions.
