Health leaders urge the government to change quarantine rules to avoid severe staff shortages.

Saffron Cordery, deputy chief executive at NHS Providers, which represents trusts, said double-jabbed health service staff "should be able to carry on working even if they are pinged" by the NHS Covid-19 app.

Health and social care workers were among the first people in the UK to be eligible for a coronavirus vaccine when it became available in December 2020. Asked if NHS staff could be exempted from isolation orders, a No 10 spokesman told the Financial Times,, it was "something we're looking at ahead of step four" of England's roadmap out of lockdown.
